We have every labour saving device at our fingertips but we are still constantly tired. Too tired to play with the kids, too tired to cook dinner, too tired to exercise!
Well guess what, being tired all the time is going to be a real hurdle if you want to get into shape, lose weight and feel great. What a shame it would be, to be too tired to feel fit and healthy.
So let’s look at why we get tired and see where we can get some more energy from!
You get tired because:
You haven’t had enough sleep, you’ve had an interrupted sleep or you’ve slept too much. Sleep is so important as this is where your body repairs and rejuvenates itself. However, there is a fine line, because on the flip side having too much sleep can leave you feeling lethargic and sluggish. About 8 hours of sleep nightly plus a 10 minute power nap throughout the day is all that is needed.
You are dehydrated –Drink often. (water that is!!)
You have poor nutrition and you lack iron – Eat mostly healthy foods like fruit, veggies, lean meats, beans, cereals, wholegrain breads. These foods contain the vitamins and minerals that keep you alive and kicking.
You are overweight – Try carrying a 10kg back pack around and you will be more tired than if you didn’t have to.
You lack exercise – The human body is meant to be active. Lying around in bed after you’ve had adequate sleep will just slow down your metabolism.
So in short, if you are feeling tired and you have had enough sleep, get up and do some exercise. You’ll be amazed at how much more energy you have after you have “worked” your body.
